Charles Dunn was a farmer and businessman. He emigrated from his native Kentucky to Sangamon County, Illinois. In 1850, he was farming and owned real property valued at $4,000. He was living in the household of Samuel N. Little, with whom he would partner to create the Dunn & Little Livery Stable in Springfield, Illinois. In 1860, Dunn was living in Springfield and owned real property valued at $20,000 and had a personal estate of $3,000. Dunn and Little sold their business to A. C. Malone in 1864.
