Elmore married Hannah Tucker in 1802, with whom he had at least three children, and served in the Tennessee Militia during the War of 1812. By 1830, he was living in Sangamon County, Illinois, but had moved to Cass County, Illinois, by 1850. In 1860, Elmore was working as a farmer and owned $4,800 in real estate.
