Emmerson, Alan

When he was young, Emmerson immigrated from Kentucky to Indiana Territory, where he married Nancy Mounce in 1810. In 1817, Emmerson, his wife, and their four children moved to Illinois, settling in Edwards County. Emmerson built up a farm but also spent much of his life in elective positions, serving on the board of county commissioners, as justice of the peace, judge of the county court, county treasurer and county assessor. Emmerson also represented Edwards County in the Illinois House of Representatives from 1838 to 1842, where he served alongside Abraham Lincoln.
