Erety, George

George Erety was an attorney, businessman, and civic leader in the Northern Liberties area of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In 1837, he represented Philadelphia County at the Pennsylvania Constitutional Convention. He served as a city alderman and a manager of the Franklin Institute. In 1850, he was an alderman for Northern Liberties Ward 4 and owned real estate valued at $9,000. In 1855, Erety became the first president of the Jefferson Fire Insurance Company, serving in that capacity until after the Civil War. In 1860, Erety was practicing law in Ward Twelve and owned real estate valued at $25,000 and had a personal estate of $15,000. In 1865, he was president of the Board of the Guardians of the Poor. During the Civil War, Erety was among the first one hundred members of the Union League of Philadelphia.
