In 1830, Green lived in Greene County, Illinois. He volunteered with the Illinois militia during the Black Hawk War, serving from June to July of 1831, and again from April to May of 1832. By 1834, he lived in a part of Sangamon County, Illinois that would later be subsumed into Menard County.
