Green came to Illinois in 1837. In 1839, Green married Amanda Hoyt in Scott County, Illinois. He lived in Sangamon County in November 1839, and likely also lived there in 1842. Around 1845, he relocated his family to Jersey County, where he gave his occupation as "lumberman" and claimed $1,000 in real estate. In 1860, Green still lived in Jersey County with his family. He was a farmer and owned $16,000 worth of real estate.
