Joseph Gundy was a farmer, landowner, and early pioneer of Vermilion County. In 1821, he married Sally Davidson. Joseph and Sally arrived in Vermilion County in 1822, settling in Ross Township. Between 1825 and 1853, Joseph acquired approximately 1,490 acres of public land in Ross and adjacent townships. In 1850, he was farming and owned real estate valued at $10,000. In 1860, he owned real estate valued at $24,000 and had a personal estate of $6,000.
