Hickman, William

Hickman moved to Shelby County, Kentucky, in 1812, and married Mary M. Cardwell the following year. They moved to Sangamon County, Illinois, in 1833, and settled near Mechanicsburg. Mary Hickman died in 1843, and William Hickman married Mrs. Elizabeth Short Burrell in 1845. In addition to working as a farmer, Hickman was elected justice of the peace in 1857. In 1860, he owned $21,000 worth of real estate.
