Henry Hipple was a landowner, merchant, and postmaster of Canton, Illinois. He moved to Canton sometime in the late 1830s, opening a tippling house. In January 1840, Hipple became postmaster of Canton, holding that position until late 1849 or early 1850. After his time as postmaster, he returned to mercantile pursuits. In 1850, he was a merchant in Canton and owned real property valued at $15,000. By 1860, he owned real estate valued at $50,000 and had a personal estate of $500.
