Jackson, Joel

Joel Jackson had settled in DeWitt County, Illinois by 1837 when he served as a subscription commissioner for the Waynesville Seminary. From 1839 to 1841, he served as postmaster of Waynesville. In 1850, he was a merchant living near Waynesville and owned $4,000 worth of real estate. By 1855, he had moved to Chicago where five years later he was operating a boardinghouse.
