Thomas King, Jr., farmer and surveyor, purchased around 870 acres of land in Tazewell County between 1853 and 1859. He served as county surveyor for Tazewell County from 1853 to 1861. At the time of the 1860 census, King owned real estate valued at $5,000 and possessed personal property worth $500. In politics, he was a Republican. King married Mary Hawley in 1854 and the pair had five children.
