Lane, Thomas (Peoria Co., IL)

Lane spent his early life on the family farm in his native state. In addition to farming, he engaged in carpentry and cooper work. He migrated to Hamilton County, Illinois, where he purchased a farm and married Mary B. Mathis, a union that produced six children. In 1834, Lane and his family moved to Peoria County, where he purchased 120 acres in Trivoli Township. By 1850, he owned real estate valued at $4,000. By 1860, he owned real estate valued at $8,800 and a personal estate of $1,225. Lane was a minister with the Methodist Episcopal Church who established numerous churches and preached on the revival circuit.
