Lawrence, William T.

William Lawrence was a farmer, a War of 1812 veteran, and U.S. congressman. He attended common schools and worked in mercantile pursuits. He served in the Fourth Regiment, New York State Artillery during the War of 1812. He moved to Cayuga County in 1823 and engaged in farming. He served as justice of the peace in 1838. Lawrence won election, as a Whig, to the U. S. House of Representatives, serving from 1847 to 1849, alongside Abraham Lincoln.
