Lindsay lived in Sangamon County, Illinois, as early as 1836. In 1837, he married Rachel Keyes in Sangamon County, and in 1842 he remarried to Charlotte Kimes. In 1850, Lindsay lived with his family near Mechanicsburg, where he worked as a cabinet maker.
