Lincoln, John

John Lincoln was a great uncle of President Abraham Lincoln and brother of President Lincoln's grandfather, Abraham Lincoln. Early in life, he moved with his family to Rockingham County, Virginia. In June 1782, he married Mary Yarnall, with whom he had several children. John and his family lived in Turleytown, near Harrisonburg, where he owned a water-powered grist and bark mill and a tan yard. He was a deputy surveyor of Rockingham County. About 1819, he and his family moved to Ohio, where he purchased a 181-acre farm near Lebanon, where he lived and farmed for the remainder of his life. John was an ardent Baptist.
