Flourished: Sangamon County, Illinois
Two different men named Thomas Long served in the Black Hawk War from Sangamon County, Illinois. This Thomas Long was a private in Abraham Lincoln's company until the company was discharged on May 27, 1832. He reenlisted on June 2 as a corporal in Charles R. Pierce's company, which was mustered out of service on June 22, 1832. He was likely not the Thomas Long who was major of an odd battalion of infantry and who also served in Captain Elijah Iles's company with Abraham Lincoln.
