Matheny, Noah W.

The second son of Charles R. Matheny, Noah W. Matheny assisted his father in the Sangamon County clerk’s office as soon as he could write. When his father died, Noah Matheny became the Sangamon County clerk pro tem. He was subsequently elected for eight four-year terms, serving as county clerk from 1839 to 1873. On August 22, 1843, he married Elizabeth J. Stamper, with whom he had four children.
