McCoy, James P.

While living in Kentucky, McCoy fought in the War of 1812. Returning to Kentucky after the war, he married Jane Murphy in 1814, and together they had ten children. In 1818, McCoy moved to Illinois and settled on land that later became part of Sangamon County. In the early 1840s, McCoy operated a mercantile business with George U. Miles.
