McMorris, John

John McMorris was a farmer. McMorris spent his early years in his native Virginia. In July 1819, he married Elizabeth Kackley, with whom he had ten children. McMorris and his family moved to Coshocton County, Ohio, where he engaged in farming. In 1839, he emigrated to Coles County, Illinois, settling in what would become Hutton Township, where he purchased 160 acres to start a farm. McMorris established a large farm and owned real property valued at $1,000 in 1850. By 1860, the value of his real property had increased to $3,000, and he had a personal estate of $250. He was a member of the Separate Baptist Church.
