McClain, Dudley

Dudley McClain moved to Edgar County, Illinois, in 1833. He married Rebecca Hannah on October 18, 1837, and the couple eventually had six children. In 1844, McClain joined the State Militia as a major under Colonel James Blackburn. McClain was working as a cabinet maker in 1850. In 1855, he represented Edgar County in the Illinois House of Representatives as a Democrat. By 1860, McClain owned $5,000 in real estate and $500 in personal estate value. Religiously, McClain was a Baptist, and served as a deacon of the Urbana Baptist Church for sixteen years.
