In 1827, Meeker married Aby Jones in Sangamon County, Illinois. In 1830 Meeker lived in Sangamon County with one other person in his household. He served during the Black Hawk War with Abraham Lincoln, reenlisting several times. By 1840, he had moved to Madison County, Missouri, and a decade later, he was a farmer living in Sainte Genevieve County, Missouri.
