Mitchell, Edward

Died: 1836-09-12 Springfield, Illinois

Edward Mitchell arrived in Springfield, Illinois, in 1824 and married Mary Bartlett, with whom he had three children. Mary died in 1830 and Edward married Eleanor Essex the following year, with whom he had one additional child. John Quincy Adams appointed Mitchell postmaster for Springfield and he remained in that office until 1827, when he became recorder of Sangamon County. That year, he also enlisted to fight against the Winnebago uprising. He died in Springfield in 1836.
