Newland, David

Newland and his brother held mail contracts in Burke County, North Carolina. Newland was a Jacksonian who represented Burke County in the North Carolina House of Commons from 1826 to 1830. He served one term in the North Carolina Senate, from 1830-1831. He ran for Congress in 1835, and lost to James Graham. Newland contested the election and a new election was held, at which Graham was elected.
