Isaac N. Onstott was a cooper, postmaster, and county clerk. In October 1848, he married Mary M. Goodman. From November 1850 to June 1851, Onstott served as postmaster of Havana, Illinois. He subsequently served as clerk of Mason County, from 1853 until his death. In 1854, Onstott purchased forty acres of public land in Sherman Township, southeast of Havana.
