Rankin, Edmond

In 1836, Rankin settled along Salt Creek in what would later become southwestern Logan County, Illinois. He first engaged largely in livestock trading, taking droves of cattle to market in Philadelphia and hogs to St. Louis. In 1851, he purchased a mill and ran that business as well. In 1849, Rankin married Helena Augusta Philipsen, with whom he had eight children. Politically, Rankin was a Democrat.
