On March 5, 1804, Reynolds married Sophia Bane in Mason County, Kentucky. Sometime before 1830, he settled in Madison County, Illinois. From 1833-39 and again from 1844-47, he was a justice of the peace of Madison County. In 1840, Reynolds won election as a Whig from Madison County to the Illinois House of Representatives. In 1850, he was a farmer in Highland, Illinois, with his wife Sophia. He owned $16,000 in real estate. From 1840-50, he was a partner in a mill in Highland.
