Richmond, Sylvester W.

Sylvester W. Richmond was a teacher and a farmer. In September 1850, he married Amelia Jane Leatherbury, with whom he eventually had at least seven children. They settled into a home together in Switzerland County, Indiana that year, where he worked as a teacher and owned $300 in real estate. Between 1853 and 1854 he acquired nearly 500 acres of public land in Livingston County, Illinois. By 1860, he lived in Livingston County with his family and owned more than $4,000 in real and personal property.
