Nathaniel Richards was a banking director, investor, and officer for several charitable ventures. In 1802, he married Charlotte W. Mumford, with whom he had at least one child before she died in January 1835. From 1827 to 1851, he served as governor of the Society of the New York Hospital. In addition to being an active member of the American Bible Society and manager for the New York City Society for the Reformation of Juvenile Delinquents, he also served as director of the New-York Bank for Savings and was a stockholder in the Mercantile Library Association. In 1840, he married Catharine Mumford, with whom he had at most three children. Upon his death, he possessed an estate valued at $25,000.
