Ross, William A.

Ross moved with his parents to Tazewell County, Illinois, in 1835, where he was mostly employed as a blacksmith. In 1849, he married Rebecca J. Maris, and they settled in Tazewell County. In 1860, Ross lived with his family in Washington, Illinois, where he worked as a tinner and owned $2,500 worth of real estate, with a personal estate of $4,000. In June 1862, Ross was appointed a deputy provost marshal, in which capacity he served until the end of the Civil War.
