Robinson married Jane Hanley in 1809 in Kentucky, and together they had six children. In 1821, they settled near Springfield, Illinois. Politically, Robinson was a Whig. He ran unsuccessfully for the Illinois Senate in 1826 and for the Illinois House of Representatives in 1832.
