Hugh Gordon Seymour, who sometimes went by H. Gordon Seymour, was a student, a Christian, and a Republican. In 1850, he lived in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, with his parents and siblings. As a youth he attended Dickinson College in Carlisle. Shortly before his death, he was elected president of the Society of Religious Inquiry of Dickinson College.
