Shaw, Aaron

Shaw studied law in Goshen, New York, earning admittance to the bar in 1833. He practiced law in Lawrenceville, Illinois, and earned appointment as state's attorney in 1842. Voters elected him to the Illinois House of Representatives in 1850 as a Democrat, where he served one term. Shaw won a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives in 1857 and served until 1859, after which he returned to the Illinois General Assembly. He served as a judge of Illinois's Fourth Judicial Circuit from 1863 to 1869.
