Spears, Sr., George

Born: 1764-08-11 Augusta County, Virginia

Died: 1838-04-16 Tallula, Illinois

During the American Revolution, Spears served as a corporal in Jacob Bowers' company of the Sixth Pennsylvania Regiment commanded by Colonel Josiah Harmar. After the war, he moved to Kentucky. In 1785, he married Mary Neely, and the couple settled in Green County. During the War of 1812, he was a lieutenant in David Allen's company of Kentucky Mounted Volunteers. In 1824, Spears and his family moved near what would become Tallula, Illinois, where they took up farming. George and Mary Spears were the parents of George Spears.
