When Lucy was ten years old, she moved with her parents to Mercer County, Kentucky. In 1808, Lucy married John Speed, with whom she had eleven children, one of whom was Abraham Lincoln's close friend Joshua F. Speed. In 1841, Lincoln visited the Speeds at their plantation called Farmington near Louisville.
