Laura R. Quigg was born in Litchfield, New Hampshire. In 1850, she lived with her parents and siblings in Chester, New Hampshire. In July 1854, she married her brother David's former law partner, Leonard Swett. They had one son together in 1859. By 1860, she was living in Bloomington, Illinois with her family.
