Taylor married Nancy W. Jackson in 1821 in Kentucky, and together they had seven children. They moved to Sangamon County, Illinois, in 1834, where Francis was engaged in agriculture. In 1837, he was one of the residents who pledged funding to secure the move of the state capital from Vandalia to Springfield.
