Walker was a resident of Morgan County as early as 1835. He served alongside Abraham Lincoln in the Illinois House of Representatives for one term, 1836 to 1838, representing Morgan County. Walker was vocal in the creation of Cass county. He married Mary Ann Wood in Cass County in 1845.
