Wright married Lucy Cabiness on June 17, 1837, in Sangamon County, Illinois. He was a merchant and served as Menard County Probate Justice of the Peace from 1839 to 1846 and 1847 to 1849. In 1844, Wright owned two Petersburg town lots valued at $60 and personal property valued at $62. In 1850, he owned $2,000 in real property. In 1860, he owned $26,800 in real and personal property.
