Robert E. Yost was a postmaster and county clerk. From September 1850 to January 1852, he served as postmaster of Benton, Illinois. In December 1851, Yost married Nancy J. Wilbanks, with whom he would have three children. In 1852, he was county clerk of Alexander County, Illinois.
