The Little Vermilion River is a tributary of the Illinois River. It begins in northern Illinois in the area west of the Fox River, then runs south, eventually merging with the Illinois River near the base of its rapids and near the Illinois and Michigan Canal. This Little Vermilion River is not to be confused with a river by the same name that is a tributary of the Wabash River, and which runs from Vermilion County, Illinois to Vermillion County, Indiana.
