Initially settled by Euro-Americans in 1833, Dubuque, Iowa is a port city located on the Mississippi River in northeastern Iowa. It is the county seat of Dubuque County. Incorporated in 1841, it was known for its agricultural and mineral abundance and was home to two colleges and a university by the early-1850s.
