The town of Brookfield is located in central Massachusetts, fifteen miles west of Worcester. The area was the home of the Quabaug or Quaboag peoples, whose name was derived from their term for the location. White inhabitants of Ipswich petitioned the Massachusetts General Court for a grant of land in the vicinity in 1660, and settled there about 1665. Brookfield was incorporated as a town in 1718.
