Located in Southeast Massachusetts, seven miles South of Brockton, Bridgewater was incorporated into a distinct township in 1656. Known as a farming town, Bridgewater also had iron manufactures, small arms factories, sugar mills, cotton mills, a paper mill, and shoe production in the nineteenth century.
