Sugar Grove is a village/precinct in Menard County, Illinois. Located in eastern Menard County north of Athens and west of Logan County, Sugar Grove is one of the oldest settlements in Menard County. White settlers first came to the area in 1819, attracted to the abundance of maple trees, for which the village/precinct received its name. In May 1850, a tornado hit the village/precinct, causing considerable damage.
