Located southeast of Toulon, Illinois, Wyoming is the oldest town in Stark County, Illinois. Originally called Spoon River, Wyoming became the location of a Post Office in December 1835. Surveyors laid out Wyoming in March 1836 on behalf of General Samuel Thomas. In 1865, the Illinois General Assembly incorporated it as a town.
