Wolf Creek originates north of Williamsville and flows southward through Sangamon County to converge with the Sangamon River northeast of Springfield. In the 19th century, the settlements that hugged the creek and its timber were referred to as "Wolf Creek" as well, although no town of such name ever formally existed.
