1Abraham Lincoln addressed the envelope, and he also wrote and signed the free postage frank. Lincoln served in the U.S. House of Representatives from December 6, 1847 to March 3, 1849. The envelope is postmarked June 14, and 1848 was the only year during which Lincoln served in Congress in June. The envelope’s contents have not been located.
