Resolved by the General Asembly of the State of Illinois that our Senators in Congress be instructed and our Representatives requested to use their best exertions to procure
the passage of a law making2 an appropriation in money to clear out the obstructions to the Navigation of the Illinois River. from its mouth to the foot of the Rapids3

1William Gordon introduced this resolution in the House of Representatives on January 27, 1835. The House adopted the resolution on the same day. On January
30, the Senate amended the resolution by striking out the words “from its mouth to the foot of the
Rapids.” The Senate adopted the resolution as amended. The House concurred in the
Senate amendment on January 31. On February 5, the House sent the resolution to Governor Duncan.
