Sec[Section] 1 Be it enacted by the People of the state of Illinois represented in the General Assembly That M. E Rattan of Pike County and William Gooding of Adams County be, and they are hereby appointed commissioners to view and locate a state road from Pittsfield in Pike county to Quincy in Adams County.
Sec 2 The said commissioners shall meet at Pittsfield in Pike county on the first monday in May next, or as soon thereafter as may suit their convenience and, being duly sworn before some justice of the peace faithfully to discharge the duties required of them by this act, shall proceed to view, mark and locate said road on the nearest and best route, doing as little damage to private property as the nature of the case will admit. The said road shall be marked by ploughing or placing stakes in the prarie and marks on the trees in the timber.
Sec 3 As soon as the said road is located as aforesaid, the commissioners shall make report thereof to the county commissioner’s Courts of Pike and Adams counties and said road shall in all respects be deemed a public highway, and shall be opened and kept in repair as other state roads are; and the county commissioners of said counties of Pike and Adams shall allow said commissioners a reasonable compensation for their services under this act to be paid equally out of the treasuries of said counties.

1On December 26, 1834, Archibald Williams introduced in the Senate the petition of sundry citizens of Pike County praying for a road from Pittsfield to Quincy. The Senate referred the petition to the Committee on Petitions. Williams from the Committee of Petitions introduced SB 30 in the Senate on January 14, 1835. The Senate passed the bill on January 17. On January 20, the House of Representatives referred the bill to a select committee. The select committee reported back the bill on January 22 without amendment, recommending its rejection. The House refused to read the bill a third time.
