Sec.[Section] 1. Be it enacted by the people of the State of Illinois represented in the general assembly, That James Waters, Thomas Armstrong[,] and Samuel Prevo Jr. of Clark county be and they are hereby authorized and empowered, or a majority of them, to draw on the Treasurer of said county for the sum of fifteen hundred dollars, money of said county, and the Treasurer shall pay the same over without delay.
Sec. 2. Said commissioners shall cause the same to be expended to the best advantage in improving the slough west of Darwin where the road crosses and the low ground on the road from Darwin to McLuer’s bluff;2 and on the road from Darwin by Aurora to Big creek placing said money on said road to the best advantage for the public good, and they shall render an [a]ccount of said disbursements to the commissioners court of the county at the June term next.

1On February 8, 1837, William B. Marrs in the House of Representatives presented the petition of various citizens of Clark County, requesting the passage of an act to improve roads in the county. The House referred the petition to the Committee on Petitions. In response to this petition, Stephen A. Douglas from the Committee on Petitions introduced HB 278 in the House on February 13. On February 24, the House tabled the bill until July 4, 1837.
